State Representative BJ Nikkel (House District 49) from Larimer County recently endorsed Eric Weissmann to be the next Congressman from Colorado's 2nd Congressional District, and we wanted to share her endorsement letter with you. Thank you Representative Nikkel!
Dear Larimer County Republicans:
I'm writing to share with you my endorsement of Eric Weissmann for the Republican nomination for Congress in the Second Congressional District. I'd humbly ask you to join me in supporting Eric.
Like most of you, I was none too pleased when a Denver judge adopted a Democrat redistricting map that took Larimer County out of Cory Gardner’s Fourth Congressional District and placed us into the Second Congressional District, which is currently represented by liberal Democrat Jared Polis (not to mention my own disappointment with being drawn out of my own legislative district by Democrats on the Colorado Reapportionment Commission!).
Not only do I believe that Eric Weissmann offers us the best opportunity to win this new district, but I also believe that he will make an outstanding Congressman. That's because Eric is running to win and is committed to making a difference in Congress.
Eric is a very successful businessman who has actually created dozens of jobs and signed paychecks in Colorado. He is focused on tackling the big issues facing our country: improving the economy and creating more private sector jobs. He understands the issues facing Colorado families.
Given the great challenges facing our country, I believe Northern Colorado needs to have a strong, reform-minded voice for limited government in Congress. We certainly won’t get that from Jared Polis, who has only contributed to the problem by endorsing President Obama’s contribution to our national debt, with his massive spending sprees and with his heavy-handed regulatory agenda, all of which hurts our economy.
Neither is Kevin Lundberg the right nominee for this district. His agenda revolving around and highlighting social issues won't help us defeat Polis and turn the economy around. At a time of tremendous economic and fiscal challenge in America, Kevin, as a career politician, continues to focus on divisive social issues, which is a distraction we simply cannot afford.
I should know. During the recently adjourned legislative session, Kevin did something highly unusual and very divisive to our Republican party - he asked the Speaker to have me removed from my Judiciary committee which was set to hear the civil unions bill. He did so simply because he learned that I intended to vote my conscience and support the bill. The Speaker refused because he knew that removing me would have meant losing the voice for my district in the House of Representatives and would have disenfranchised every voter in my district. Lundberg has been highly criticized for attempting such a divisive move toward a fellow Republican.
Dividing Republicans against each other will not help us win this challenging race and it will certainly not serve us well in Congress. Eric Weissmann is a strong leader who will constructively help bring people together so we can win this seat for Republicans.
It has been my distinct honor to serve Larimer County in the Legislature. I will miss the opportunity to serve our community at the State Capitol. But I will continue to work hard to elect conservative leaders at both the state and federal levels.
That means working to elect Mitt Romney to the White House, helping keep our majority in the House by getting Republican leaders elected to the legislature, and electing a strong conservative leader to the Second Congressional District.
Eric Weissmann has the real-world experience and leadership which will help him focus on cutting spending and reduce the national debt. He will work hard to help make America’s economy more competitive by cutting the regulatory burdens on businesses so they can create more jobs.
I urge you to join me in supporting Eric Weissmann for the Republican nomination in Colorado's Second Congressional District.
